Francesco Saverio Rossi (Naples, 1805 – active until 1872) was a renowned Neapolitan silversmith of the 19th century, appreciated for his skill in crafting sacred objects, as well as refined pieces intended for everyday use.
Within the context of Neapolitan silverwork of the time, a key figure was the assayer, responsible for verifying the purity of the metals and applying official marks (punzoni) in accordance with the regulations of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.
Among the most authoritative figures in this field was Gennaro Mannara, who belonged to a family with a long-standing tradition in assaying. His work played an essential role in regulating the silver market, thanks to close collaboration with silversmiths like Rossi, ensuring the quality and compliance of the finished pieces.
